Till the recent past we were doing all the architectural designs for our dream home only on paper and it is very difficult to understand and visualize the things. There were so many cases in which they were expecting the house to be in one way and the final building turned out to be in some other way. These are some of the complications we faced with the paper designs of the house plans. Now the situation has completely changed and this article is aimed at providing some insight into it.

Now you could very well visualize the architectural design of your dream home in the computer monitors with the help of many of the architectural services providing companies. They provide a very vital role in building your dream home in the same way you like to build it. These designers of this firm could very well put your house plan in two and three dimensional views making it easy for you to visualize your home and make sure the design is as per your wish.

You can very well make any required modifications and the architects will be very much able to do the changes for you. Once you are satisfied with your house plan you can very well start building your home. It is the very general expectation of everyone that their dream house should come up in the same way as they dreamed of. With the architectural services providers you could very well achieve that.

It is not going to cost you more in making use of these companies to make your house design and it is highly worth enough to spend this amount in order to avoid any last minute surprises. For all of us, building our dream home is a once in a lifetime thing and hence it is much better to do take all necessary steps to make sure that you build your dream home as you wish.

In my day to day role, I am architecting enterprise business applications using multiple COTS product(s) and creating solutions around them.

Following are the architecture principles I tend to stick to when architecting solutions:

KISS (Keep it Simple and Stupid) – First cardinal rule I always follow is to keep the architecture simple. I make sure that I do not use jargons or abbreviations that require Googling every 2nd word. I create multiple views of the architecture for different stakeholders (IT, Business, Implementation Team, Infra Team and so on) to convey the design and architecture

Buy vs Build Decision – I generally in favor of buying the functionality instead of trying to re-invent the wheel. I recommend not falling in the trap of “not invented here” syndrome to start creating everything in-house. Requirement Mapping – When using COTS (Commercial Off The Shelf) products in your design, make sure you have mapped your requirements to the product features. Use a COTS product only, if it fulfill 70-80% of the requirements out of box

Identify Integration Points – When you are dealing with multiple COTS products, it is very important to identify the integration points for those products. If you even an iota of doubt, do a proof of concept to validate the same. Do not go by the product brochures, or sales talk. There is nothing like knowing what works and what does not early in the game

Decision Making – In any architecture design, decisions need to be made. Usually people do not want to stick their neck out. I believe in taking decisions based on the information and data available and moving ahead. I might be wrong but at least we move ahead. If the decision was wrong, we correct it on the way. I do not believe in wasting time in endless meetings that do not lead anywhere. I also make a point to validate my decisions by doing proof of concepts to validate some of the technical design issues

Stakeholders – In any solution design, make sure you are aware of your stakeholders. The stakeholders might be direct like Business, Development Team or may be indirect like IT Team, Infra Team, Hosting vendors and Maintenance team. Make sure you share and get feedback from stakeholders on your architecture to avoid any unpleasant surprises later on

Prepare for change – We might always want the requirements to be cast in stone, but seldom they are. To tackle the uncertainty, I try to view requirements as what can potentially change vs what will not change. Design for requirements that are not likely to change (e.g. logging, auditing, persistence mechanism, messaging etc). For the requirements that keep changing (e.g. HTML look and feel, content layout etc) be prepared with a design that is fluid and ready to accommodate changes. If you are aware of areas of change and are expecting changes in that area’s, it will be easy to accommodate them

Communication – Communication of architecture to the entire stakeholder team is very important. The stakeholder’s include both internal and external teams. On the client side you will have Business, IT, Infra, Security, Enterprise teams. On the other side, you will have your own PMO, Development team, testing team, deployment

Be prepared for surprises – Whatever you do, you still need to be prepared for surprises. Make sure you plan for the same. I have not done a single solution where you do not come across at least one surprise

Enjoy – in the end, do not get bogged down. Enjoy the work. People will appreciate the same!

These things work me. Do share what works for you!

The architectural design process normally consists of four major phases:

(1) Master Planning,

(2) Conceptual Design,

(3) Design Development, and

(4) Construction Plans.

In a previous article, we discussed the Master Planning process, so we will concentrate on the other three phases now.

Conceptual Design Phase

The architect will develop one or more Conceptual Designs, usually consisting of a site plan, a floor plan, and exterior elevations, that address the needs of the church as identified in the Feasibility Study and Master Planning phases. The Conceptual Plans are drawn to scale but will not include design details. The church may want to limit the Conceptual Plans to the first phase of construction, or it may want to include plans for future construction. In the case of a church with a balcony, for example, the architect could design only the main floor of the building and indicate the upper level only as “unfinished future balcony”. However, for many important reasons, the church may want the balcony completely designed even if the construction will be completed later. Another option would be to prepare conceptual plans for the balcony, but not to develop the balcony detail in subsequent design phases. The point is that the architect needs to know what the church wants drawn, and for what purpose.

The purpose of the Conceptual Plans is to offer the church a few design options to consider that will meet their needs and construction budget. From these Conceptual Plans the church can select one design to proceed with in the Design Development stage that follows.

Design Development Phase

Once the church has selected a Conceptual Design for development, the architect begins Design Development of that concept. The plans generated in the Design Development phase will include the site, foundation, floor plans, elevations, wall sections, building sections, framing, finish schedules, door/hardware schedules, suspended ceiling layout, plumbing, heating and air conditioning, and electrical/lighting plans. The plans may run 20-30 sheets of drawings.

If the owner has selected a builder, these plans offer enough information for the bidding process to begin for major trades on the project. Often the plans will include only performance specifications that encourage bidders to offer design and product proposals for their particular trade. Specifications from these proposals can later be included in the final drawings, thus incorporating these cost-effective designs and materials. If the project is to be competitively bid by several builders, then the plans should be competed before bidding begins. If the owner has contracted separately for civil engineering of the site, it is best if this is completed by the time Design Development plans are complete so that the site work can also be bid.

By getting bids at the end of the Design Development stage, the church will know if the project will be within their budget before proceeding with final construction plans.

Construction Plan Phase

After the church is satisfied that the plans created in the Design Development phase will meet its needs and budget, the architect can proceed with the Construction Plan phase of design. In this final stage, the architect will make any final modifications to the design and add final details and specifications. Some of these specifications may include final selections of finish materials, equipment brands, and construction methods. These specifications can be included on the plans or printed in a separate specification manual.

Any requirements of subcontractors regarding, for instance, the sound and lighting system, acoustical treatments, or landscaping can be included in the final drawings. Also, final dimensions, framing and finish details are added. The plans are completed for final bidding, permits and construction.

All church plans must be stamped by an architect registered in the state where the project is located. The site plans, especially the drainage plans, may need to be stamped by a professional engineer. These plans are then submitted to the state and local building permit authorities for review and permits. Any modifications required by these authorities are made to the plans prior to construction. The architect normally files all paperwork for the state permits and the builder obtains the local building permits.

The field of commercial architecture has been in place since the beginning of architecture. However it has evolved a lot over the years to cater to the ever-changing needs of businesses. This genre of architecture seeks to combine style with functionality for varied business needs and there are extremely talented architects who seek to bring commercial complexes to life. Most often, companies use the standard phases including pre-design, schematic design, development of design, drawings and negotiation upon taking up commercial architecture design projects. Architects will seek help from clients to discuss space requirement and the type of building they are looking forward to. Some firms use model makers in order to create a scaled version of the design also.

Commercial Architecture In The Urban Setting

Designs for commercial complexes in urban areas come in various forms including skyscrapers, multi-storey malls and lifestyle centers. Today, commercial spaces are increasingly being used for a number of purposes other than purely commercial purposes. The requirements pose challenges to architects but they have responded well to the burgeoning need for commercial space with sustainable and energy efficient building design.

Commercial Architecture Design Services

There are a number of companies which will assist you throughout the building process. In fact they will help you choose the site, complete the design with your budget in mind and create a commercial complex which is the best reflection of your dream. These design firms with in house architects will provide assistance from a concept of the building to its completion.

If you are browsing for an architectural design software to begin redesigning your potential residence, or likely to guide you with your college works, the subsequent guide may help one to make a good choice concerning the perfect architectural design software to suit your needs.

Even while I was student in architecture, I used to be pretty confused with the options which i had at that time. It was 2003 and my second year, so as everyone learned a software, I needed to pick one myself. After researching like crazy through forums, and talking to my colleagues I began to use Archicad, since it seemed the most effective fit for what we had to do… That appeared to work fine, until I needed to develop more complicated 3D objects, also to rotate them easily… During those times, Archicad was a bit dumber in that area, so I switched to Allplan, and stayed with it ever since.

Enough, about me, let’s talk about what can be your options today, as the current market in architectural design software is a whole lot more diverse than a several years back.

1. ArchiCAD

The primary recommendation I have for rookies, is ArchiCAD, and that is as this software, was, but still is among the most intuitive ones with regards to producing and adjusting floor plans in my view. What meaning, is that if you’re a young architect or designer you can easily discover the most significant commands and use them immediately to digitally draw whatever you want. You can also obtain a free trial version for the software.

2. Chief Architect

Is actually a professional 3D architectural home design software. It includes a built in automated building tools to make home design, remodeling, interior design and kitchen & bath design as simple as it gets. You can find why Chief Architect could be the home design software software product of preference for 2D and 3D design for a lot of US architects. This software also has an free trial offer, so if you think this can be a better suited option, give it a shot.

3. Punch Software

Self intitled America’s #1 Home & Landscape Design Software, this application combines the power of NexGen with the stunning realism of photographic quality from LightWorks, enabling you to create realistic home designs yourself, or for your customers. You can check it on their official page.

4. Autocad Architecture

AutoCAD Architecture software program is the package of AutoCAD designed for architects. Features developed for architectural drafting help you build designs and documents more effectively, inside the familiar AutoCAD environment. Certainly, you can try this one too before you buy it.

5. Vectorworks Architect

This is my personal favorite, and I left it towards the end, simply because is quite complex, and although it’s difficult to sit and learn your way around it, the program will deliver fast and extraordinary results after you have used it for some time. But as I was saying, this is for tech nerds, and in all likelihood not really the first option for a newbie.

This group of architectural designs software should supply you with a basic guidance regarding what is available today out there and what you could buy for your future designs.

Architectural design is a very specific discipline. There are many companies that specialise in creating home designs and plans for building new homes, but not all of them are going to necessarily meet your the needs. You need to realise that you are the creator of your own home building destiny. You have to find the designers that you like best based on the sample designs that they have. While price does matter to a degree, it shouldn’t be the only factor that affects your final decision. Instead, you should focus on choosing quality design first and then narrow down your options based on the budget that you have.

Architectural design is very open and varied no matter where you look. Every designer has their own style and is able to work with you to create the best home that you could possibly imagine. When you build a home, you want to make sure that it’s exactly what you want. Buying an existing home allows you to make certain concessions and compromises because it’s already built and you can always renovate it later. However, when you are starting from scratch, you need to make sure that you get the home of your dreams because it’s what you deserve. Good designers will understand this and will work with you to determine what is best for your needs.

Architectural design affords you the chance to see a variety of different styles of homes by designers from all over the region where you live. New Zealand has many great home designers that you can work with, so it’s really just a matter of taking the time to look and find the home designer that you want to work with. Think about your favourite styles, how big of a home you want, and the budget that you have to work with. Using a combination of these elements, you can come up with the right designer and the perfect home design for your new home.

Professional architectural design needs to be a part of your plans for building your dream home. You need to make sure that you choose the most qualified and experienced designer that you can afford. In total, you really just need to take the time to process your options, figure out what you want and need, and then make the decisions that best suit you and your new home.

In today’s world, technology is becoming more and more advanced and is helping us come up with better, quicker, and more efficient ways of doings things. CAD design refers to computer-based drawings used for planning interiors, architectural structures, and for product design. Gone are the days of architectural blueprints, pencils, compasses and templates. CAD software has managed to change the architecture industry for the better, compared to 2D drafting by hand, CAD and CAAD software is more efficient. The software minimises redrafts, as instead of rubbing out or scrunching up the paper, you can undo actions with the click of a button.

CAD and CAAD (computer-aided architectural design) are very similar in concept, the only different is the computer-aided architectural design software includes more architecture-specific elements, for example, architectural techniques and a database of terms only found in the industry. Both types of software create accurate and complete drawings.

An advantage of CAD or CAAD software (over hand drawings) is the automation feature – this feature will automatically draw a digital representation of your structure from previous drawings. For example, if you drew the front view of a building using CAD then the intelligent software would be able to automatically generate a bird’s eye view from your 3D front view drawing. As long as the software has one 3D view of your building, it will be able to generate all other views saving you the time of drawing every view. CAD software allows architects to manipulate and modify images easily.

CAD software produces more realistic, accurate and comprehensive drawings than sketching by hand. The software can create photo-realistic representations, and can automatically generate other views from a previous drawing. Using CAD gives you access to existing designs so you won’t always have to start from scratch when planning a building, or you will at least have a base-point to start planning from. When an architect chooses to use a previous design without using CAD, it will usually involve tracing over an old plan, which takes a lot more time and energy than using the software to complete designs.

Most architects and architectural firms are using CAD software for a more pleasant and cost-effective experience when planning new buildings. If the client wants to revise a certain aspect of the design, it can easily be edited with a few clicks, saving the architect and client time and hassle.

CAD design software isn’t only used in the architecture industry – it is also beneficial for interior designers for room planning software, for retailers selling kitchens or bathrooms, and for product designers who need to manipulate image design for prototypes before they go into production. Today’s marketplace is competitive for engineers so CAD interior design software allows more time for design modification rather than drafting and redrafting.

Architectural books serves as a best guide in helping designer find a better way to create a plan. Through planning, research and direction a Architecture student can find valuable self-discovery through the use of these sorts of books.

A source for learning

There are many ways to gain knowledge about a field. The source can be from a school or a college or it can be gained from a book too. An architectural designer is the one who creates the design and plan for the structure that is to be building upon. The design and the structural involve commercial buildings, bridges and residence too. This process of designing and constructing a building is done by a person or a computer. The building is laid upon the surrounding space around it. Architectural designers should have a good creative skills, imagination and artistic talent.

Knowledge center

Books are considered as the knowledge source. A book would contain the information that is needed at any point of time. An architectural book should provide a complete guide for preparing, compiling and presenting the information. To become architecture the person should be well versed in calculus, physics, geometry and science, where architectural school would train you to be the expert. For example consider if you are constructing a building, to know how to construct first you have to decide on the layout of the building. To raised a building calculate the surrounding area and plan the structure of the building. The structure can be designed by a person who knows mathematics and the principles of design. Engage yourself in knowing all this if you want to become architecture.

An architectural book must start from the basics like design, drawing, the creative process, and presentation. The reading should start from basics such as how to draw a line. The question might look simple but for an architect this question gives a great value. How to draw a line means it should educate a student about a good line and bad line. From there on it should finally leads to the color theory. The architectural book should behave as a best companion to offer step by step instruction to the students about how to prepare and present. It should also be a guide to the experts too. Architectural book should contain a fully illustrated example that should advice a student how best it can be worked out. Some books are also available online with the same illustration. For example consider the architecture book 101 Things I Learned in Architecture School by Matthew Frederick provides a complete difference between the traditional buildings and modern buildings. It gives a complete detail to a student what he wants.

As a good designer would not stop in a particular field, they tend to know all the fields related to them. In such cases each designer would always to book to gain more and more knowledge. When considering the job opportunities the architectural designers can work as a consultant in both private and government sectors apart from structural layout. Architectural designers, beginners or experts would always turn to the book for guide in solving from basics to complex problem. Architectural books serves as a best source in guiding a designer in a better way.

The fast moving world has been witnessing the changes in every phase of human being and the same is case with Architectural services. So after analyzing the scarcity of the land and understanding the rapid increase in the demographic changes it has resulted in various developments in the field of Architectural design. The inspiration from the ancient architecture designs and after vast research and development it helped in discovering many new design patterns.

Architectural design involves the necessary services that help in the construction of buildings or monuments. However, with the huge competition one cannot expect to compromise with the reliability of architectural services. So the initial phase of architectural design initially starts with the selection of construction site as per clients’ requirement depending upon the type of building he wants to construct i.e residential or commercial. Upon selecting the site, the service providers of architectural design service will consider the building regulation act and client desires in preparing the design.

If you are one among the group of individuals who take the help of architectural services then they will assist you in acquiring the planning permission for your building. Their services also include completing the legal formalities required for building construction. After acquiring the planning permission the service provider will offer the services of the building contractors. And these contractors will help in selecting the right building material that can manage stress for long years.

Under the category of architectural services, interior design and exterior design is also included. They will make sure that your home is built with most efficient space management. The interior designers will take all things in to consideration and apply suitable color in your building to match the accessories such as furniture and other things offering a great living environment. However, choice will always be yours in decorating your home but to achieve the desired results professional services is essential.

Architectural design services aim to provide you with the ultimate provision of necessary services. They will see that proper sewage disposal and electrical supply is provided and most importantly the constituent forms of heat insulation. For highest standards of quality buildings with reliable architectural services you must contact salamonengineering.

There once was a day where one someone was speaking about the word green, it was obvious they were referring to a color formed by mixing yellow and blue. That assumption is no longer true; with our society leaning toward a healthier environment and ways we can help save the earth, the term green now takes on a whole new meaning. One way to support an environmentally conscious lifestyle is with green architecture.

‘Green Architecture’ is a form of environmentally sensitive design and construction. Energy-saving, sustainable development and natural materials are all hallmarks of this form of construction. Green Architecture is also sensitive to the impact of the construction on the environment in the years and decades after the construction is complete. It explores a relationship between architecture and ecology.

One of the key points to green architecture is to create synchrony with the surrounding environment. Everything about a green building should easily transition from the natural landscape, including the building materials. The best material to use for green construction is materials that have been recycled or come from easily restored resources.

Advantages of Green Architecture:

1. Optimizes the use of resources, especially energy and water. At the design and construction stage, it incorporates resource recycling during construction, and later when the building is being used.

2. It causes minimal impact on the environment during the entire building life cycle of siting, design, construction, operation, maintenance and removal.

3. Where possible, the natural topography is used to optimize energy usage.

4. It leads to reduced operating costs by optimizing resource usage. Green Architecture focuses on recycling resources – especially water. Wherever possible, it focuses on using building materials from the building site itself. Well-insulated doors, windows and walls reduce energy usage and loss.

5. Green Architecture promotes improved health of the occupants of the building, due to better natural air circulation and use of natural light.

6. Provides onsite facilities for recycling, thereby minimizing waste being sent to landfills.

Materials Commonly Used in Green Architecture

1. Recycled materials such as wood, tiles and bricks that are available at the building site or in/near the surrounding area.

2. Where new materials are used, the focus is on material that can be rapidly replenished, such as bamboo, which can be harvested for commercial use in just 6 years.

3. Insulation made from low volatile organic compounds that use materials such as recycled denim as opposed to fiberglass insulation – which has long-term adverse effects. Insulation may be treated with boric acid to retard insect damage. Organic or milk-based paints also afford protection.

4. Solar energy is an abundant resource that is used through passive solar, active solar and photovoltaic techniques.

5. Packed gravel in parking lots and driveways instead of concrete reduces rainwater run-off and replenishes ground water resources.

Many countries have developed their own standards of Green Architecture for energy-efficient and sustainable building. Given below are some common standards:

1. Code for Sustainable Homes – United Kingdom

2. EnerGuide for New Houses – Canada

3. House Energy Rating – Australia

4. Green Globes – USA, Canada and UK

Practitioners of Green Architecture and sustainable development seek to achieve ecological and aesthetic harmony between structures and their surrounding natural environments.
